Bordering Spanish Catalunya, the Pyrenees-Orientales has a proud Catalan culture. You will find plenty of Catalan cuisine, festivals, traditional dress and dancing, as well as linguistic influences, all across the region.
The breathtaking Massif du Canigou dominates the view wherever you are in the Pyrenees-Orientales. With thousands of hiking trails, quiet ski resorts and cycling trails for road, mountain and gravel bikes, adventures are waiting to be had. We can add on any extra activities to your holiday, so if you have a particular interest, do let us know when we are building your holiday.
The Cote Vermeille is a paradise for foodies, sun-worshippers, swimmers and divers. With it's own marked 'sentier sous-marin' (underwater trail), the coves of Banyuls-Cerbere showcase the region's marine life, while those who prefer to stay above the waves can indulge in SUP and kayaking. We can add any activities on to our holidays, just ask!
Positioned so close to the Spanish border, this region has historic fortified towns nestled in the hills and coastal areas, and the hills once resonated with the booms of industry, from talc and iron mining to textile and chocolate production, all in the small area of the Haut Vallespir. Our guides love to share the fascinating history and folklore of our region and you will hear all about it when you ride and stay with us.
Lured by the stunning quality of the light, artists have been flocking to the towns of Ceret and Collioure for centuries. Picasso, Matisse, Rennie-Mackintosh and Chagall once called this region home, and some famous artists were born and raised here, including Maillol, Manolo and Rigaud. If you would like to inject some culture to your cycling holiday, we can arrange rides to incorporate tours of museums, such as the Musée d'Art Moderne in Ceret.
During your stay, you will have ample opportunity to sample Catalan and French cuisine. Our holidays include homemade dinners and breakfast, but lunch is a combination of café or restaurant stops and picnics in the more remote, scenic places.
We can add more or less restaurant dining as you wish, but we have some favourite places, serving delicious, authentic food which we'd love to show you.
The Pyrenees Orientales has a rich history of wine making and the variety of different wines and fortified wines produced is staggering. From Banyuls to Byrrh, Maury to Muscat de Rivesaltes, there are many delicious flavours specific to this region to tantalise your tastebuds.
Why not ask to add on a vineyard tour to your cycling holiday?
