Want to know more about our gravel bike tours but can't find your answer below?
Reach out to chris@pyrenees.cc
Pyrenees Cycling Club is not like other bike tour companies. Every tour we run is tailored to the individuals who book. The bike tours you see on this website are a 'serving suggestion', giving you an idea of the variety of landscapes and scenery to discover in the Mediterranean Pyrenees and Costa Brava.
Once you send an enquiry, we like to have a phone or video call, with no obligation to book, to get a feel for your style of riding, the distances you want to cover and the elements that would make your dream cycling holiday. If you would prefer to keep it to emails, that's absolutely fine too.
After the conversation, we will design a bespoke tour brochure outlining the dates, the route, the costs and beautiful images of the places you will be riding. Once we have agreed any tweaks or changes, we will send out a payment link for the deposit to secure your booking in our calendar. Then you can get excited about your forthcoming biking adventure!
We send out a packing list two weeks in advance of your arrival, but we remain on hand for questions and communication whenever you need.
Yes, you can! If you are travelling solo, we can offer accommodation, catering and self-guided routes, with access to the workshop and bike mechanic services. Our annual Traka & Girona tour is also open to solo travellers, find out more.
A self-guided, fully catered week at the farmhouse starts at 1085€ per person. A fully supported & guided week's adventure starts at 2100€ per person.
As each tour is bespoke, the price can vary depending on the length of the tour, the time of year and added extras such as bike hire and Barcelona airport transfers. You can find example starting prices on each of the tour pages.
Remember, prices for services like guiding and van support are fixed for up to 8 guests so the more people you bring to share your adventure, the lower the cost!
You will be required to pay 50% of the tour price at the time of booking, with the remaining 50% payable the week your tour starts. You can pay by bank transfer or by card via our online payment provider, Stripe.
On hub and spoke tours, you will stay at the Pyrenees CC farmhouse, Mas Clot d'en Guardia. Make our cosy farmhouse your home from home, with touches of luxury like the wood-fired hot tub and infinity pool. You can find photos and more information on our Hub and Spoke page.
If you're booking a point to point tour (like the Pirinexus, for example, stopping in a new place every night) we handpick the hotels and guest houses carefully to ensure you receive a welcome as warm as you'd receive at Pyrenees Cycling Club. When researching boutique hotels and guest houses we are always looking for family run places with a warm welcome and friendly service. We pick our partner guest houses & hotels to have the same vibe as our own farmhouse - welcoming, cosy and authentic.
The nearest airports to Pyrenees Cycling Club are Perpignan (1 hour) and Girona (1.5 hours). Transfers to and from these airports are included in your tour package price. We can also collect from Barcelona airport (3 hours) for a supplement - contact us for the most up to date price.
You can also get here by train - trains run direct from Paris to Perpignan (1 hour), or you can get the train from Barcelona to Figueres. Perpignan and Figueres Vilafant (1 hour) rail station transfers are also included in your tour package price.
Gravel biking is the perfect way for cycling enthusiasts to get off the beaten track, explore hidden trails and get back to nature. A gravel bike is a 'swiss army knife' bike, one so versatile you can ride 100km on the road or explore remote dirt roads with.
Gravel bikes bridge the gap between road and mountain bikes. With lightweight frames and drop handlebars like a road bike, you can climb dirt trails with ease, but higher volume tyres help to absorb the bumps and give you confidence on gravel tracks. The frame has more relaxed, stable geometry than a road bike and there are threads to mount luggage on the frame of a gravel bike.
Knowing what to expect and what to pack for a gravel bikepacking adventure can seem daunting. When you book one of our tours we will provide you with a packing list and arrange daily luggage transfer, so you don't have to worry about carrying everything on your bike! If you're planning your own self-guided trip Epic Road Rides has some helpful tips.
In our early communication, let us know if you have cycled off road before - if you have not, that's also fine! We tailor custom tours to your cycling ability and ambitions. Some folks' hardcore MTB trail is another cyclist's easy flow trail and we understand that. We are all different and you won't be taken down tracks you are not comfortable cycling on.
Yes! Our airport transfers can carry bikes, both built or in boxes. Chris will be on hand to setup your bikes on arrival.
You will be riding some long descents and using your brakes probably more than at home. Please get your bike checked over before your stay and it's best if you have new brake pads fitted before your tour. We have descents over 20km long!
We chose to specialise in the planning of gravel bike adventures because we believe it's the best way to see the most varied landscapes and 'locals only' hidden spots.
Most gravel rides will be at least 50% paved roads anyway, we believe that variety of surfaces makes a ride interesting.
Our Guava Spot gravel bikes can be set up with road tyres if you're planning on covering big distances on surfaced roads.
If you're new to gravel cycling or can't bring your own bike with you, we have our own fleet of gravel and electric gravel bikes for hire.
Our partners are Guava bikes, gravel bike specialists based in Barcelona where they build and custom paint each bike. Our colourful fleet has a range of sizes and gearing options. Learn more about our bikes.
We love them! We have some electric gravel bikes in our rental fleet, the Orbea Denna. The smooth Shimano motor gives a feeling very simillar to 'acoustic' cycling, with inobstrusive assistance making you feel like a super strong rider! The best e gravel bike we tested by far.
If you would like to mix in some electric bikes into your group, think about the dynamic of your group and how yuor friends without motors will keep up.
On a typical mixed tour containing both ebikes and non ebikes, the people riding electric bikes would typically be doing so to be able to ride with their friends so they would ride accordingly to keep the ride social and the group together.
Want something a bit more technical? Chris is the man to ask as a long time mountainbiker, amateur downhill and enduro racer and all round MTB lover.
Not only is the Pyrenees-Orientales ideal for road and gravel biking, it's a playground for mountain bikers too! With around 20 different marked trails from green to black within 5km of our base, you will be spoilt for choice. Every single one offers challenging climbs, stunning views and gnarly descents that will leave you feeling exhilarated.
Don't worry, Chris is our on-site mechanic, he can build bikes that have been transported, tune up and check your bike after rides, do running repairs and even pack your bike back into its bag or box ready for your flight home. He loves nothing better than sharing knowledge, so if you need a lesson, or quick refresher, on basic bike maintenance, he'll happily oblige. You can even add a bike maintenance workshop into your tour!
Yes! Pyrenees Cycling Club is on the Pirinexus route, a 340km mixed surface loop taking in Girona, the Costa Brava and the French Pyrenees-Orientales. It is composed of rural roads, greenways and cycle tracks.
We are located around km 140 if riding the Pirinexus clockwise from Girona and offer accommodation and mechanic services for adventurers on the Pirinexus trail.
Absolutely! Our farmhouse is perfect for families and groups of up to eight people, self-catered, so if you have a mixed group the non-cyclists can chill by the pool while the riders can enjoy exploring the region on two wheels and rejoin the rest of the group around the dinner table! It's advisable for the non-cyclists to have their own mode of transport so they can explore the area too.
Get in touch! Each tour is as unique as you so if we havent answered your question, please don't hesitate to get in touch via email, our visit the contact us page to complete a contact form, drop us a What's App or you can even book an online meeting with us to answer all those little niggly questions that often come up during conversation.
